Processing Free Essays

Crystal Hoge Professor Jennifer Mullins Eng. 101 Bi-Term Processing Essay 29 October 2012 Bringing Baking Back from the Old Days Today’s society has become all about convience and how to get everything done cheaper and faster. However, my belief is that you should only take convience so far. We will write a custom essay sample on Processing or any similar topic only for you Order Now Convience shouldn’t be brought anywhere near the kitchen. My favorite baked item is that of old-fashioned bread. I don’t mean that pre-packaged bread that you pick up from your local grocery store. I’m talking about the kind of sweet smelling bread your grandma used to make on Sunday mornings before church. Included in this article are the ingredients and steps necessary to obtaining that delicious, sweet smelling homemade bread. The first step to baking is to aquire the desired recipe the recipe I will be following is the recipe for traditional white sandwich bread. (Yetter, Elizabeth) The required ingredients for this recipe for the recipe are as follows: * 1 ? cup room temperature milk * 1 Tbsp dry active yeast * ? tsp salt * 1 Tbsp softened butter 3 ? cups all purpose flour, or bread flour This recipe will only make one loaf and will take roughly three hours and fifteen minutes. This time includes baking and preparation time. Before starting your preparation, I highly recommend making sure you have all required ingredients, as well as any desired additional indregients. If you wish to have sweeter tasting white sandwich bread I recommend a tablespoon of honey. If you wish to make more than one loaf of bread, simply multiply the recipe. If you desire to make two loaves, double the recipe. If three loaves is what you want, quadruple the recipe. Doing so, however, may elongate the period of time it takes to cook and prepare the bread. Preparation is the next key step in making a successful loaf of bread. First, you will need a large bowl in which you will mix milk and yeast, adding sugar, salt, and two cups of flour at a time to ensure it mixes well. As a test, make sure the dough follows your spoon around the bowl. Next, lightly flour your recently cleaned and dried counter top and knead the dough for four minutes. The process of kneading is basically pulling apart and massaging the dough into a ball. After kneading the dough until smooth, grease a medium sized bowl and place the dough into into bowl. Turn the dough over so that both sides of the dough are lightly greased then cover the dough for one hour and place in a warm, draft-free place, such as a microwave and let rise. After the dough has doubled in size remove it from the covered bowl. Then lightly flour a cutting board. After flouring your surface place the dough onto it and knead for four minutes or until all the bubbles are gone. Once the bubbles are gone, shape the dough into a loaf and place into a greased bread pan. Then, once again cover the pan with a cloth and place back into the microwave and let rise for forty-five minutes. After the bread has doubled in size, uncover the pan and place into a preheated oven of 350 degrees. Cook the bread dough for approximately forty-five minutes. A way to test the bread to see if it’s done is to knock on the top of the bread. If it sounds hollow when you knock on it, it’s done. Once you have verified that your bread is done, remove it from the oven and place it on a rack to cool. After your bread has cooled enough to touch, remove it from the bread pan and place on a cutting board. With a sharpened bread knife, cut the bread into even slices. Remember, your slices should be thick enough to hold a spread and a couple slices of sliced meat. However, it should also be thin enough to chew easily without straining your jaw. To ensure that your bread doesn’t get hard, store your bread in plastic storage bags. Bread made with milk usually has a softer crust than breads made with water. However, in any recipe for milk, you can substitue milk with water or visa versa. Now that you have properly mixed, prepared, cooked, and stored your bread you should have a nicely browned, sweet smelling loaf of bread that Grandma used to make. Now simply dress your bread with your desired spread, meat, and vegtables, and enjoy! Literary Analysis- the Story of an Hour Essay Example

Literary Analysis- the Story of an Hour Paper Ride of Her Life In â€Å"The Story of an Hour† (1894), Kate Chopin presents a woman in the last hour of her life and the emotional and psychological changes that occur upon hearing of her husbands’ death. Chopin sends the protagonist, Mrs. Mallard, on a roller coaster of emotional up’s and down’s, and self-actualizing psychological hairpin turns, which is all set in motion by the news of her husband’s death. This extreme â€Å"joy ride† comes to an abrupt and ultimately final halt for Mrs. Mallard when she sees her husband walk through the door unscathed. Chopin ends her short story ambiguously with the death of Mrs. Mallard, imploring her reader to determine the true cause of her death. The story beginnings with Chopin informing the reader about Mrs. Mallards â€Å"heart trouble† (1). This can be considered from two vantage points, the first being that Mrs. Mallard may in fact be afflicted with a heart condition diagnosed medically, and the second is that Mrs. Mallard had trouble of the heart, which was produced by her feelings toward her current life situation with her husband. Mrs. Mallard is a slave to her marriage and sets aside her own identity in order to be the wife her husband expects her to be. Richards, a friend of Mr. Mallard’s, is the first to hear about Brently Mallard’s death in a railroad accident. We learn that â€Å"great care was taken† in telling Mrs. Mallard as gently as possible about the death of her husband. Mrs. Mallard’s own sister, Josephine, delivers the news â€Å"in broken sentences† and â€Å"veiled hints† (1). This was done with her â€Å"heart trouble† in mind, in order to not cause her further heart complications. Upon hearing the news, Chopin makes it clear that Mrs. Mallard does not take the news as some other women would; â€Å"with paralyzed inability to accept its significance† rather she breaks down in tears with â€Å"wild abandonment† in a â€Å"storm of grief† (1). In the article written by Selina Jamil, titled â€Å"Emotions in ‘The Story of an Hour’†, Jamil argues that â€Å"Chopin depicts Mrs. Mallard’s awareness of her husband’s death is stimulated by emotions, rather than by rationality† (216). This compliments the notion that Mrs. Mallard would immediately break down with raw emotion after hearing the news, rather then it taking time for the reality to set in. After the initial reaction, Mrs. Mallard goes to her room to be alone and this is when the truly profound emotional and psychological ride begins for her. Mrs. Mallard is drawn to the â€Å"comfortable, roomy armchair† that faced â€Å"the open window† (1), which leads one to believe Mrs. Mallard has a deep desire to be â€Å"open and comfortable† in her own life. Chopin then narrates that Mrs. Mallard is weighed down by â€Å"physical exhaustion that haunted her body and seemed to reach into her soul† (1). [-0] This line illuminates the great suppression and oppression that Mrs. Mallard had been living in, in order to meet her social expectations as a wife. Jamil argues that up to this point Mrs. Mallard â€Å"ultimately purges her[self] of the sufferance of a meaningless life, as it becomes the impetus for the revelation that leads to her new freedom† (216). Chopin uses descriptive words that lend themselves to Mrs. Mallards own emotions in her current state of mind. The line, â€Å"The tops of the trees are aquiver with the new spring life†, speaks volumes about the newness of spring bringing new life to the world. This plays a large role in the epiphany that is soon to be had by Mrs. Mallard about what is to come in her future without her husband. The words â€Å"delicious breath of rain†¦ in the air† illuminates to feelings she will soon have about the death of her husband in relation to how her future will proceed. Jamil asserts that, â€Å"these objects inspire joy and hope in her, which, in turn, stir Louise’s attention: ‘[S]he felt it, creeping out of the sky, reaching toward her through the sounds, the scents, the color that filled the air’† (217). The next line, â€Å"There were patches of blue sky showing here and there through the clouds[-1] that had met and piled one above the other in the west facing her window†, Chopin is symbolizing the emotions that are breaking through the â€Å"pile[s]† of Mrs. Mallard’s suppressed self that she has endured in the formalities of her life (1). Chopin continues to express how afflicted Mrs. Mallard is with her struggle to come to terms with her current state of emotions and her vision of self by describing Mrs. Mallard’s â€Å"dull eyes, whose gaze was fixed away off yonder on one of those patches of blue sky. † While Chopin depicts Mrs. Mallard’s glance as not being one of reflection â€Å"but rather indicated a suspension of intelligent thought,† it can be inferred that Mrs. Mallard is processing her self-being not on a rational level but more on her emotional stimuli. Mrs. Mallard’s roller coaster continues to climb to the peak as she begins to feel â€Å"something coming to her†, she does so â€Å"fearfully†, as she is not clear on what â€Å"it† is that is coming. In her article Jamil indicates, â€Å"The ‘it’ that [Mrs. Mallard] feels emerging from nature is the vision, or perception, of [Mrs. Mallard’s] freedom, which occurs through [Mrs. Mallard’s] aroused emotions† (217). Chopin thoughtfully deduces that Mrs. Mallard’s actualization of self is â€Å"too subtle and elusive† to be grasped with rational thought and that â€Å"it† can only be initially â€Å"felt† intuitively and then â€Å"it† can be processed emotionally (1). As Mrs. Mallard begins to acknowledge what â€Å"it† is; she in turn tries to â€Å"beat it back with her will† (1). Mrs. Mallard is attempting to fight her own will on a couple of levels at this point: first, she â€Å"beats it back† because she knows in her world this feeling of joy is inappropriate at a time of loss; second, she is fearful of this new identity of self, to be an individual with her own will and freedom. However, when she â€Å"abandoned herself a little† she is able to allow her true emotions to escape with one small word â€Å"free, free, free! † (1). This small four letter word at first brought on a â€Å"vacant stare and†¦ look of terror† (2) because of the feelings she was having so soon after her husband’s death. This look quickly vanished as her body began to have a physical reaction to her psychological state of mind and â€Å"her pulse beat fast†¦ coursing blood warmed and relaxed every inch of her body† (2). At this point Mrs. Mallard is transformed into Louise, an individual that is no longer controlled by the â€Å"powerful will† (2) of another. She is no longer fearful of the â€Å"monstrous joy that [holds] her† as she has been enabled by â€Å"a clear and exalted perception† of self and individuality that no one’s â€Å"private will† shall be imposed upon her in the future (2). Louise is then left to contemplate the years to come beyond the day when she is obligated to lay her husband in his final resting place. The emotional incline she eels from the thought of years â€Å"that would belong to her absolutely† causes her to â€Å"open and spread her arms out †¦ in welcome† (2). Louise has reacted the ultimate and â€Å"strongest impulse of her being† and that is her â€Å"possession of self-assertion† (2). Jamil confirms that, â€Å"Louise’s emotions enable her to feel harmony between her body and soul† (218). This enlig htenment compels Chopin’s protagonist to whisper, â€Å"Free! Body and soul free! † (2), as she has finally come full circle in her journey of an hour to becoming her own self after hearing the news of her oppressive husband’s death. While considering the society with which Louise lived, it was common for people to associate emotions with being or making oneself sick. This explains why Josephine would ask Louise to â€Å"open the door—you will make yourself ill† (2) for fear of what may happen to Louise due to the depth of emotions she was processing. Louise attempts to send her sister away and continues to â€Å"drink in [the] very elixir of life† (2) by connecting to this new world that she finds herself in, filled with emotions for the future. Louise takes time to â€Å"fancy† about the days and seasons she would be able to experience with this new sense of self. Chopin leads Louise to compare her desire to have a long life, when just yesterday she had wished her life to be short because of the lack of desire to continue her life in the prison of marriage she had with her husband. After she takes those last moments to relish in her coming days she opens the door to her sister with â€Å"triumph in her eyes, and she carrie[s] herself unwittingly like a goddess of Victory† (2). This demonstrates that Louise has irreversibly transformed emotionally and that this inner change has transferred out into her outward appearance. As Jamil observes, â€Å"Louise breaks the shackles of the patriarchal culture as she comprehends that she can ‘live for herself’ (2) instead of living the life that her husband sanctions for her. And this comprehension has to be felt with emotions† (219). As Louise makes the deviant descent down the stairs with her sister, she is confident in the future she will lead. However, when the front door is opened and her husband enters alive and uninjured because he was in fact far away from the accident, Louise takes her final shocking free fall off her roller coaster. Louise is unable to bear the loss of her new found identity, and with the sudden return of her husband and the life she knew prior to this hour of self discovery, she dies instantly. She dies not â€Å"of the joy that kills† (2) with the return of her husband but of the hair pin turn that takes her back on a road she desperately never wanted to return. Jamil accurately proclaims, â€Å"Chopin makes clear that to simply observe the world through one’s rational faculty is nowhere near as powerful as observing it with the vibrant, vigorous, acute, and heightened awareness that emotion makes possible† (220). Talking on the Phone in Japanese

Talking on the Phone in Japanese Even when you start to understand a language better, it is still difficult to use when talking on the phone. You cant use gestures, which can be helpful at times. Also, you cant see the other persons facial expressions or reactions to what you are saying. All of your efforts must be spent listening very carefully to what the other person is saying. Talking on the phone in Japanese might actually be harder than in other languages; since there are some formal phrases used specifically for phone conversations. The Japanese normally talk very politely on the phone unless speaking casually with a friend. Lets learn some common expressions used on the phone. Dont be intimidated by phone calls. Practice makes perfect! Phone Calls in Japan Most public phones (koushuu denwa) take coins (at least a 10 yen coin) and telephone cards. Only specially designated pay phones allow international calls (kokusai denwa). All calls are charged by the minute. Telephone cards can be purchased in almost all convenience stores, kiosks at train stations and vending machines. The cards are sold in 500 yen and 1000 yen units. Telephone cards can be customized. Occasionally companies even them as marketing tools. Some cards are very valuable and cost a fortune. Many people collect telephone cards in the same way postage stamps are collected. Telephone Number A telephone number consists of three parts. For example: (03) 2815-1311. The first part is the area code (03 is Tokyos), and the second and last part are the users number. Each number is usually read separately and the parts are linked with the particle, no. To reduce confusion in telephone numbers, 0 is often pronounced as zero, 4 as yon, 7 as nana and 9 as kyuu. This is because 0, 4, 7 and 9 each have two different pronunciations. The number for directory enquiries (bangou annai) is 104. The most essential telephone phrase is, moshi moshi. It is used when you receive a call and pick up the phone. It is also used when one cant hear the other person well, or to confirm if the other person is still on the line. Although some people say, moshi moshi to answer the phone, hai is used more often in business. If the other person speaks too fast, or you couldnt catch what he/she said, say, Yukkuri onegaishimasu (Please speak slowly) or Mou ichido onegaishimasu (Please say it again). Onegaishimasu is a useful phrase to use when making a request. At the Office Business phone conversations are extremely polite. Yamada-san (o) onegaishimasu. Vindicate, Avenge and Revenge

Vindicate, Avenge and Revenge Vindicate, Avenge and Revenge Vindicate, Avenge and Revenge By Maeve Maddox The verbs avenge and revenge mean basically the same thing, but avenge is widely perceived as having nobler connotations than revenge. Both words, like the English word vindicate, derive from the Latin verb vindicare/vendicare: â€Å"to claim, to set free, to punish.† In early usage, all three words, vindicate, avenge, and revenge meant, â€Å"to punish† or â€Å"to exact retribution.† In modern usage, the most common meaning of vindicate is â€Å"to clear from censure, criticism, suspicion, or doubt† or â€Å"to justify.† People and things may be vindicated: Mubarak’s Wife Says Husband Has Been Vindicated Bayliss insists the decision made before his appointment to retain England’s leading Test run-scorer as captain has been vindicated. A year after his shock resignation, Pope Emeritus Benedict has no regrets and believes history will vindicate his tumultuous and much-criticized papacy. Avenge and revenge, however, retain the ideas of punishment and retaliation. Note: The word revenge functions as both noun and verb. Avenge is always a verb. Its noun form is vengeance. Although there is no authoritative rule to distinguish avenge and vengeance from revenge, a perception exists that there is a difference. For example, The Chicago Manual of Style offers this note: Avenge connotes an exaction for a wrong. The corresponding noun is vengeance. Revenge connotes the infliction of harm on another out of anger or resentment. Revenge is much more commonly a noun. Likewise, Paul Brians (Common Errors in English Usage), promotes the distinction: When you try to get vengeance for people who’ve been wronged, you want to avenge them. You can also avenge a wrong itself: â€Å"He avenged the murder by taking vengeance on the killer.† Substituting â€Å"revenge† for â€Å"avenge† in such contexts is very common, but frowned on by some people. They feel that if you seek revenge in the pursuit of justice you want to avenge wrongs, not revenge them. Two examples from literature illustrate the difference. In The Princess Bride, Inigo Montoya seeks vengeance for the murder of his father, whereas in Moby Dick, Captain Ahab seeks revenge for an injury inflicted by an animal. Montoya has justice on his side, but Ahab acts from wounded pride, irrationally attributing vindictive intentions to a nonhuman creature. Considering how mean-spirited cyber culture has become, the distinction between revenge and avenge is probably a useful one to observe. Here, for example, are the titles of just a few of the distressingly large number of how-to articles on the topic of punishing people for perceived affronts: How to Get Revenge on Anyone The Ten Commandments of Revenge 50 Random Ways To Get Revenge How to take revenge on your Boss 10 Outrageous Ways to Get Revenge On An Ex How to Get Subtle Revenge on Your Enemies How to take revenge on Your Parents How to Get the Sweetest Revenge Ever Note: Until recently, the phrase â€Å"take revenge† was more common than â€Å"get revenge.† â€Å"Take revenge† is still more common than â€Å"get revenge† in the Ngram database of printed books, but a Google search shows â€Å"get revenge† ahead of â€Å"take revenge† on the Web. Perhaps we should reserve vengeance and avenge for retribution motivated by a wrong that any reasonable person would regard as appalling and use revenge to denote the desire to hurt someone for no better motive than anger or hurt pride. 3D Computer Modelling and Animation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words

3D Computer Modelling and Animation - Essay Example Consequently, games run on game engines that are equipped to accept user input and output the results by use of the Real Time Rendering to create 3D graphics. Real time rendering is a feature of computer systems that allows them to generate images or outcomes of the player’s action for the player in real time. On the contrary, the other forms of expression such as TV shows, films and movies are all rendered before the users request such that the user sees the exact content delivered by the programmer. This gives the programmers enough room to make these forms as complex as they wish. The movie Toy Story 3 is an intelligently designed movie with high complexity. The artists put in a lot of detail, time and effort to design the game. In fact, it is said that the least complex scene in the movie could have taken at least 8 hours to render each of the frame. Motion capture is a graphics feature used in the Toy Story game. Live motions are recorded and translated into mathematical terms that can be used. It consists of tracking the motion over time and bringing them together to develop 3D representation of the performance. Simply put, motion capture translates live perfomance into digital perfomance. Recent tv commercials have employed reinforced texts and small print disclaimers so that they can attract the atention of the viweres and hold keep them staring at the screen. The most crucial element in this is the ability of text and 3D modeled cartoons to be animated because moving graphics are mor attractive than static graphics. Animation in graphics was introduced in TV commercials in the 1940s, but it was limited in functionality because it relied on what was available from cinemas. In the p[ast five years TV commercials have included graphical elements that slide, float or move. They also include an illusion of a 3D to make the content appear to rise towards the viewer. This gives the commercial a more dynamic aspect. In

Global War on Terrorism Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Global War on Terrorism - Assignment Example The author of the paper states that the war on terrorism officially started after the 9/11 attacks on the US soil although earlier attacks on US embassies in Kenya, Tanzania and the attempted bombing of the Los Angeles international airport were alarming. The then president, George Bush took the initiative and claimed to fight the war on terrorism on behalf of the whole world. Following the invasions of Afghanistan in 2001 and then targetting Iraq in 2003, NATO forces have been involved in all operations as the attacks of 9/11 were considered an attack on all the 19 member countries of NATO. A very active participant of this war has been Pakistan which has been supporting the US on the matter and fighting against terrorists by allowing US forces along with their own army to carry operations in parts of Waziristan(northern Pakistani territory). Due to this war countries have the highest budget allocated to defense. This is all the taxpayer money we are talking about, which is you, me and us. Do we want to allocate our resources on just fighting terrorists in a war which never seems to end? Do we want to see innocent people being killed like in the case of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan? Do we want this amount of destruction, chaos, and insecurity? Of course, the answer to all of those questions would be no. I refuse to agree with the idea of the global war on terrorism. This war has been a total failure increasing the number of killings, the use of weaponry globally and the doubt in the minds of people if they are being ruled by cruel, self-centered and power hungry leaders.W hat seems to be the idea of the general masses is that the war on terrorism is being used to achieve Uthe S driven goals as it keeps on attacking and killing more and more without eliminating the Taliban forces.T his war has been so much hyped about by the media that it has become part of the headlines of every news channel in the world. The US has gone so far to fight the war that it has created a torture facility in Cuba with the name of 'Guantanamo Bay' which initially held the prisoners of war from Afghanistan and Iraq.  Prisoners are subject to the highest degree of torture from physical remand like electric shocks to psychological abuse, including religious insults such as the Quran being kicked on the ground.M ost of the prisoners kept in this place have been proven innocent but their lives shackled. The war shows the US interest in the oil-rich countries to obtain unhindered sources of oil.T his war is the war being fought by Uthe S alone without the support of the UN, which is the council representing the whole world. If UN does not support the global war on terrorism it is unfair and unjustified for this war to continue as it keeps on creating more and more problems for the whole world(Balken,2005).T the number of bombings and the technology being used by the terrorists is rising sharply, showing signs that this is a never-ending war which will just keep o n causing harm to the environment, the psyche of the people, the insecurity among countries(international relations) and causing unwanted bloodshed and violence(Hancock,2008). The resources of the whole world are being heavily used in a cat and mouse race with a heavy cost of living. Increased expenditures for the global war may come at the expense of consumption expenditures, the classic guns-butter trade-off. These expenditures could come at the expense of outlays for investment, including business fixed investment, residential construction, infrastructure, public and private expenditures on health and education, the primary human capital categories, and research and development(Goldsmith,2007).

Examining The Mission, Vision And Value Statements Of Three Organizations

Examining The Mission, Vision And Value Statements Of Three Organizations Introduction: This report focuses on Mission, Vision and Value Statements of an organization. The report provides the full details on the goals of the organization. The report also consists of developing the organizational strategy by taking the views of the managers. Apart from this I have also mentioned the stakeholders role in the business like power and influence of the stake holders and it has a brief explanation about the stakeholders represents more challenges than opportunities. The report also consists of developing the mission statements of the 3 organizations after having a look on their purpose, values and behavioural standards. I have used appropriate concepts, tools and techniques and also provided the recommendations to improve the business. Services to improve the organization: After analyzing the 3 views of different authors, Milton Friedman, Charles Handys and S Davies, we can go with Milton Friedmans view of profit maximisation. In this literature he explains about the social responsibilities of the business. In every organization the private property system or a corporate executive is the staff of the owners of the business. Employers are the direct responsibilities to the owners. Those responsibilities conduct business in accordance with businesss desires of making more profits. In some cases the owners have different objectives for the employers. The primary responsibility of the manager is to keep the business going with the profit and to establish a corporation with the individuals who can run the organization smoothly. The performance of the manager is not easy to judge, as how well he is doing the job. But the criteria is straightforward, and all the criterion that are exists in voluntary contractual arrangement should be clearly defined. The corporate executive has their own rights of course. Voluntarily the corporate executive has many other responsibilities that he may recognize to his conscience, his family, his feelings of the charity etc. Social responsibilities are not of the business. They dont affect the running of the business. As discussed in these cases the corporate executive is spending someone elses money for a social interest. And this may affect the earning to the stockholders. If he is doing so and not running the business smoothly then there will be a great loss to the stockholders and the owners of the company. If they want they can spend the money separately in case of stock holders, customers or the employees. Rather than serving as an agent the corporate executive is exercising a distinct social responsibility if he have spent the money in some other way than actually he would have spend it. If he does so then, there will be effect on the taxes and he have to decide how the taxes should be paid. The tax processes are the governmental functions and there will be other expenditure on theses taxes. To control these functions, we have different judicial provisions, parliamentary and constitutional provisions. To separate the function of legislative we have different systems of check and balance and there are different functions of collecting the taxes according to the law. The businessman if it is self selected or may be appointed directly/indirectly should be legislator, executive and jurist. To improve the business of the organization the leader should be motivated and have to be fully confidence in running the business. Then only we can achieve the organizational goals easily with the less investment. Organizational Strategy: The implications of these views for managers development of organizational strategy are: If we go as per Milton Friedman a manager can develop the organizational strategy with the social and corporate responsibilities together. While doing both of them together the manager cannot be able to focus on every single job. To achieve the organizational goals, the managers have to take care of both the responsibilities social and corporate. In the view of Milton Friedman The business of business is business. And this is done to increase the profit. If the employees are not satisfied with the work then they work elsewhere. If the customers are not satisfied they can take the business elsewhere. So the manager have to prepare an organizational strategy in such a way that it increase the profit. According to the Charles Handys view Shareholders should be the whole and sole owners of the business. So that they are the only persons responsible for the losses and profits of the organization. We have to be accurate to call them as the investors and the owners of the business. They can prepare the organizational strategy in such a way that it should improve the business day by day. They need to take care of all the responsibilities given to the employees and have to take care of their basic needs like food, shelter and other living things. By this the employees will be motivated and will work more fast. If the business running smoothly then there will be an increase in the profit of the organization. S. Davies, J. Lukommik and D. Pitt Watson addresses the view on the organizational strategy in their book, The New Capitalists. As per this view the business is the property of its stock owners and they have to serve their interest in the business. There are millions of pension holders and other savers that own the biggest organizations all over the world. These owners have to be highly diversified in their investments. They have to keep a record of all the investments they made and they also have to keep record of whatever they are getting profit. If the owner of the company takes the interest in the business, then the success will be all to them only. As per their view the managers have to concentrate on the success of the business. However, they need to have a look and have to serve in such a way that there must be an increase in the profit. Conflicting needs, power and influence of Stakeholders: The Stakeholders represents more challenges than opportunities. Different group of stakeholders have their different interests. Some of them are common stakeholders interests and some of them are conflict stakeholders. The Employees and the stake holders have the common interest in success of the business. If there is a high profit in the business, then their jobs will be secured and more profit to the stakeholders. In the prosperity and growth of the firm, the suppliers have their own interest. There may be an expense in the dividend if wages are raised. There may be an expense of the short term profits if the managers have an interest in organizational growth. Stakeholders power and influence: The stakeholders represents more challenges than the opportunities. The study of the stake holders should not have to be a limited as it impacts on the growth of the organization. What is more important in the context of strategy is the power and influence of the stake holder and this may affect the objectives and goals of the organization. This may be a risk to the organizational growth. The firms are most probably affected by the stake holders itself if they take risk. There will be an external pressure and an internal pressure. External pressure includes the pressure from the customers, suppliers, government (through the taxation and spending), market place and including competitors. The internal pressure to the stake holders comes from their trade unions, employees, managers and the existing commitments. And it also comes from the moral and ethical perspective of the senior managers. To have the power and the influence and for the need, the stake holders must have the desire to exert influence must have to be coupled with the means of the liabilities on the company. The power of the stakeholders reflect the extent to which: They can disrupt the strategies and plans of the organization. They can cause the uncertainty in plans. Stakeholders are the need of the organization and organization is relying on them. Primary and Secondary Stakeholders: The distinction of the stake holders can be divided into two group of stakeholders. i.e.. Primary Stakeholders and Secondary Stakeholders. Primary Stakeholders are those that are most vital to the organization. And they are the group without whom the continuous participation of the company may not survive on the running of the business. For example, supplier and customer. Secondary stakeholders are those the company can be still exist without them. And the company can participate as well. Organization managing handling Share holders issues of ethics, corporate governance and regulations: The internal stakeholders have their own perspective which they might pursue, for example, organizations profit is the need of the manager and high wages and favourable work conditions are the need of the employees. There will be an extensive power to the managers. The Internal stakeholders have the negative power that can be impede while the implementing of the strategy. The stakeholders can threaten the industrial actions. They can give threaten to resign. And they may refuse to relocate. The share holders are the whole and sole owners of the organization, they have the voting rights and they can buy or sell the shares to takeover. The government issues can be handled by share holders in the following ways. It is unacceptable if they are publicising the business activities. If there is a political change then there will be a change in the law. They can refuse to buy goods or services from the fro named firms. They have to make sure that there should not be any illegal actions held. Mission statement: These are the two main components of the business. They provides managers the unity of the direction and transcends the well conceived vision of the business. The first ideology to make the mission statement There are two components in the mission statement. They are: Core Ideology and Envisioned Future. The Core Ideology defines that organization stands for what and why it is exist. This ideology is to create the demands of the business to change the process and to help the organization getting better. It defines the future of the organization and the goals and objectives of the organization depends on these vision and mission statements. If we prepare these statements in a good and strategic manner then we can get good results in the business. When the vision statement expressed and becomes tangible then it will become a mission statement. For a manager, to lead the organization such statement verbalizes the beliefs. The definition of the mission is to define the enduring purpose and fundamental purpose of the firm that sets the statement apart from the firm in similar business. Mission statement of Tata Steel The mission statement of Tata Steel is to achieve the sustainable and profitable growth in the steel and other related businesses. Through the innovative offers they have to create the differential value for the customers. There should be a step by step improvement in the technologies and the business processes. They have to get into partnership with the key stake holders faster. To create a high performing and the innovative organization they have to enhance the employees competencies. They need to be a responsible corporate citizen and have to enhance the quality of life of the employees as well as community. The mission of the Tata Steel embodies the philosophy of the business of strategic decision makers and they would like to achieve the sustainable and the profitable growth that reflects the organizations self concept like as always being the innovative organization and the high performer. Competencies, technologies, company activities and the customer needs are the key components to design a good mission statement of an organization. In the same way, with the help of new technology and the new business processes they have created a well designed mission statement to serve the customer and for the high performance. Mission Statement of Metropolitan Police: The Mission statement of the Metropolitan police is to working together for a safer London. The main aim of the metropolitan police is to develop the police services across Northern Ireland, Wales and England to improve the response of police to those victims of the cyber crime. The mission statement also includes for the most serious cyber crime incidents to be nationally investigated and they should be capable of doing the investigation. Working together by all the other partners, colleagues and all the citizens. Delivering the quality service. Responding the complaints quickly. Working as a team as each one have different part to work for a safer London. Mission Statement of Villeroy Boch: The mission statement of Villeroy Boch is to be leading lifestyle brand in Europe high competence and to present the trend style for the living and high end design. They believe that their success is by the enthusiasm of the customers and they can do it by showing their products and services to the customers. They always takes the constant challenges to satisfy the customers, a variety in the brand should be there to satisfy the customer needs. By having the innovative and committed employees a long run in the strong market can be achieved. The main task of them is to motivate the employees and cultivate their team spirit, to achieve their personal and joint goals they have to encourage them. Following trends is enough to be a successful, constant and to be a leader in the market. To secure the competitive edge and to be recognized worldwide they have to shape trends early on. Earning power is the important concern to maintain the long term success of the company. Appropriate dividends, constant and high rate of returns, earnings oriented growth and balanced portfolios are the fundamentals for this. They feel obligated not only to the employees, customers and share holders but also to the society and the environment. Development of Mission Statement: The purpose, strategy, values and behavioural standards are the key factors of mission statements. Below are some of the points that are suggested to improve the mission statement of the above three cases. In the case of Tata Steel the main point that is suggested is they have to make use of new technologies to improve the business and be the number one in the competitive market. In the case of Metropolitan Police, the key point suggested is, they require a system that is faster than the current system. They have to act on the complaints quickly. They have to open metropolitan police stations available in each area of London. In the case of Villeroy and Boch if they have to be on number one in the competitive market they have to produce variety in their products. Customers always look for variety with the cheaper price. So they have to make the products in cheaper prices. Involve Key Stakeholders and Staff. Research and Review EOF Plans and Research college. Research and Review EOF missions and College.
